Near Total Thyroidectomy for Retrosternal Goiter – Dr Tayyab Riaz Ch

40 years old female with gradually increasing multinodular swelling from last 20 years. Near-total thyroidectomy is an operation that involves Removal of 1 entire lateral lobe with isthmus and partial/subtotal removal of opposite lateral lobe leaving only 2ml or 2gm of thyroid tissue behind also called Dunhill procedure. or according to some books, leaving 1gm tissue on either side in vicinity of berry’s ligament.

  • Engorged neck veins present
  • Kocher -ve
  • Thyroid Profile normal
  • USG showing Multiple nodules in both lobes with No suspicios features
  • CT chest showing, Type A pre-vascular Retrosternal goiter.
